Post 366: Dreamy Reflections

Shadow Greenery #1, January 31, 2013

Backlit Shadow Greenery #1, January 31, 2013

A challenge taken, and met. A journey made. This past 366 days have been instructive, challenging and inspiring. I met my goal of integrating art practice into my every day. I learned how some times, it is great to go ahead and work fast…see what happens. And that sometimes, I prefer more time. Photography and photographic art can seem like it should be instantly accomplished, but like all art, it demands its process, thought, rework and play. More soon.

I Am Human

Ok, so I started my ‘count up’ one day early. I got mixed up between the number of posts marked in my dashboard and the number of days left until I met my goal. So, I am not putting a counter on today’s post. The 366th day in a row will be on January 31st.

From me today, dedicated to my 1 day old nephew Cody (a true work of art, that one): 20130129-205737.jpgPaperwhites, January 29, 2013

Post 363: Color Splash

I haven’t been able to be out and about the last couple days. So I have this nice shot from my NYC trip to share. This was taken in mid-town from the gallery where I saw Gerhard Richter’s exhibit. It was fun being at level with the tops of some super sweet classic buildings.20130127-182610.jpg

Post 351: Eager Eye

Getting closer to that 366 Days in a Row goal I set myself nearly a year ago. Not sure where this blog will go after the 31st of January, but I have a distinct feeling that I will continue it somehow. For now, count up to 366. It is gonna be a fun couple weeks!

It was satisfying to shoot today, after spending time away from that eye-frame while mounting the show:

The Gauntlet: 3

Flip Flop #7, April 2012

Today’s post marks my 68th in a row for the blog. I am having great fun working on things, reading, doing research, and generally thinking Art on a daily basis. My goal right now is to try to keep it tasty and brief – allowing me other creative time outside of the blog itself.  For me, it is a like a chalkboard for my notes; flowing and light – I appreciate you following along.

Thinking on Why: 5

FlipFlop #8, April 6, 2012 (for HPOM)

I am resonating with the quote from yesterday. As I experience it, the artistic urge or drive demands attention. It needs fuel (“an excuse to produce work”) and action, but it will simmer long and quiet if need be. At any rate of production, it is ever-present – and manifests itself wherever it can. The quenching of the thirst, e.g. actively working creatively, generates more energy for me as a person and artist. Art making is not the most convenient or profitable (except in rare cases) activity in which to engage. I can only conclude that I (and other artists) make art because I (they) have to do it.  That it gives me great satisfaction, focus of attention, and pleasure is an added bonus.

The Gauntlet: 2

OK, 20 days into the blog, and feeling a little unsure. Things I want to say, but don’t want to load it all up at the front of this effort. Like, do I figure the well will run dry?

Just the simple act of engaging in my art each day has begun to turn the cogs forward. I have to trust this.
