Post 366: Dreamy Reflections

Shadow Greenery #1, January 31, 2013

Backlit Shadow Greenery #1, January 31, 2013

A challenge taken, and met. A journey made. This past 366 days have been instructive, challenging and inspiring. I met my goal of integrating art practice into my every day. I learned how some times, it is great to go ahead and work fast…see what happens. And that sometimes, I prefer more time. Photography and photographic art can seem like it should be instantly accomplished, but like all art, it demands its process, thought, rework and play. More soon.

Show Info: Debora Miller’s installation I’m Not Me, She’s Over There, and its companion outdoor piece Horizon Grid (viewable 24/7), is up until February 22nd at Susan Hensel Gallery. Open Mondays 10-5, and by generous appointments.

Post 358: Getting to Lyrical

Spent Lily #3, January 22, 2013

Spent Lily #3, January 22, 2013

Working in series, like with these lilies, allows me to move closer to what I am wanting. This image was taken yesterday with the batch in that good cold light. I loved the form, and thought about it all day. Making it black and white with some filter adjustments lets me enhance its swinging form. The detail in the focussed area gives the eye something to hold.

It is seriously Minnesotan around here. Much as I would love to get out and shoot some winter, it is just too cold for me. Perhaps later. Right now, I am diving into these waning flowers. So many possibilities! Such good light (…a clear indication it is below freezing in good ‘ole Minne).

Post 352: Badland Horizon

The light was too poor to photograph what I had planned for today. So, from my archive:

A Good Day

After a day of trouble-shooting technology, finalizing placements and many other tasks, everything dovetailed and the show looked great…then we readied the space for the opening. Lots of people attended and it was very satisfying for me to see it being enjoyed. Here are some pics, credit to dad and Reb for some of these shots:

Opening Tomorrow!

Here is a fact: installation art takes Time. And it takes People. I am lucky to be having lots of people helping. Time is tight, so it will be busy again tomorrow. The opening is from 7-9 pm tomorrow night at Susan Hensel Gallery in Minneapolis.

Some pics from today:

Keep on Truckin’

Today, more installation activity in the evening after making my double prints. I really enjoyed taking my time with the printing, and everyone at Mpls Photo Center has been great.
We invaded the gallery at 5 pm. Roan, Andy, me, and helpers Julia and Crystal. I felt a bit like a foreman, and everyone was so eager to help me bring this to fruition.

Doubling Up

Today more progress, with some back-tracking. The false ceiling is nearly done, and the windows are prepared for installation. The backtrack? I need to double up the transparencies. So, I spent the afternoon at Mpls Photo Center using an Amazing printer. I will be able to run the rest fairly easily tomorrow. I always have to remember to really pump the saturation, ’cause there just is not that much surface for the ink to grab onto:20130107-222011.jpg
